Def Stan 91-91 Includes ISL and Herzog Instruments as Approved Methods for the Determination of the Freezing Point of Aviation Fuels
As of March 2005, Def Stan 91-91, one of two of the most widely used standards for jet fuel qualities, includes both, Herzog’s new method for the HCP 860, IP 528 and ISL's FZP 5G2s for IP 529 as approved for testing for freeze point of aviation fuels. The Def Stan 91-91 still considers the manual IP 16 or ASTM D 2386 as the preferred method. Producers and users of jet fuel will want to consider one of these instruments.
The ISL FZP 5G2s and HCP 860 Instruments have also been approved for use by the Joint Inspection Group which defines the fuel quality requirements for aviation fuel supplied by most major oil companies. See Product Specification Bulletin no. 4, Issue 20, March 2005.
In addition, the Aviation Fuel Quality Requirements for Jointly Operated Systems (AFQRJOS) with Issue 4, has been updated to include the IP 529 test method for freezing point.
